Which movies will you watch?

Since these last decades, sex, violence and vulgar language proliferate on the screen, which gives rise to various reactions. Some will find a shocking sex scene while others will say it’s art. When you hear the two bell sounds, you might think it’s just a quarrel of words.

In search of a regulation

The problem of the content of the movies is not new. At the dawn of cinema, some were scandalized to see on the big screen allusions to sexuality and crime. Finally, in the 1930s, in the United States, regulations were created that strictly limited what could be shown in films. ,; it forbade almost anything related to the normal life of an adult on the screen. ‘Love scenes’ were prohibited, and there was no right to refer to adultery, sexual immorality, seduction, and rape unless these elements were essential to ‘plot of the film and they are severely reprobate in the end’.

With regard to the aggression, “it was prohibited to explain and talk about the arms in use, to present in detail a criminal act, to show police officers dying at the hands of bandits, to suggest cruelty or brutality, and to to resort to crime or suicide, except when these were indispensable to history […]. In no case could crime be presented as justified “. In summary, the regulations stipulated that “no image should lower the moral values of those who see it”.

Restrictions on classification

In the 1950s, a large number of Hollywood producers no longer complied with the regulations because they thought their perspective was outdated. That is why, in 1968, this regulation was replaced by a classification system *. From now on, a film could be indecent, but it would be accompanied by a symbol intended to warn the public that it would be reserved for the “adults”. The implementation of this classification led to the sale of all dikes. In Hollywood, the scenarios were flooded with sex, violence and vulgar language. The new freedom enjoyed by producers triggered a tidal wave impossible to control. Nevertheless, with classification, the public would be warned. But does a system like this tell you everything you need to know?

What the classification does not tell you

Some have the impression that movies123  over the years the classification system has become lax. This view is supported by a study conducted by the Harvard School of Public Health. It revealed that the films judged today suitable for young adolescents contain more violence and sex than those of just a decade ago. This study also concluded that “films with the same classification may differ greatly in the number and type of scenes that may shock”, and that “the age group ranking is not a good indication of how violence, sex, foul language, etc. will be represented. * “.
